2011 ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR AWARD WINNER –
Randy Carver – Carver Financial Services, Inc.
In 1990 Randy Carver decided to set up his own company to fulfill a vision of a unique service model for his clients. Carver Financial Services was founded with several service assistants supporting each financial advisor. Rather than using set models, all financial planning is done on a customized basis with each clients plan based upon their specific needs, objectives, risk tolerance and vision.
The firm grew from “0” revenue to being one of the largest investment firms in the state (one of the top 3 according to Crain’s Cleveland May 2011) and also being ranked as one of the top firms in the United States by independent sources such as Barron’s and Registered Rep magazines. Randy and a partner formed their own internet service provider, Lakenet, in the 1990’s when there wasn’t internet access so that clients could have access to the internet simply and affordably. The firm has continued to use cutting edge technology to create a higher level of service rather than less.
Randy has always believed in building “social capital” and both he and his company have been recognized for their ongoing commitment to the community. The United Senate, United States Congress and Government of Ohio have recognized Randy and his firm for their philanthropic work. Carver Financial Services was named Business of the Year in 2009 by the Mentor Area Chamber of Commerce for it’s continuing commitment to improving the qualify of life in Lake County.
Carver Financial Services has donated over 75,000 lbs of food to local food banks since 1991 and has donated over $70,000 in cash to local charities. The firm and Randy provide free public seminars on a wide range of topics to help local residents. Randy has served on a number of boards such as the Lake County Council on Aging and Big Brothers Big Sisters and also works informally with a number of charitable organizations.
Randy’s mom, Dr. Patricia Carver, a clinical psychologist says, “Randy doesn’t panic. Randy doesn’t get anxious about things”, he has just succeeded in life.”
“I just love what I do,” Carver says. “I like all aspects of it, …dealing with people and solving their problems.”
